Page after page: Discover the confidence and passion you need to start writing and keep writing (no matter what) by Heather Sellers
What a wonderful account of the joys and problems of a writing life. Heather is honest in how she sees the life of a writer.
This book is for people who want to writing not necessary those you want to be published or those who want to be best selling authors. But those who want to write.
Firstly Part 1 Blank pages: Creating a new writing self
There are many steps suggested to getting started. You are not going to sit down and suddenly write a best seller. You have to develop the skill and commitment to writing. In the beginning the writing will be crap. This is important to remember because if you truly need to write the quality is not as important and the act of writing.
“Having a writing life is like having a fabulous Lover…”. How much attention do you give to writing? How important is it? How important are books in your life? Writing and reading support each other.
Writing is hard but with desire you can kept going and improve.
Secondary Part 2 Turning pages: How to maintain your commitment to writing.
If you are emotional – write! The more emotional the better the writing. Heather talks about compost. Dig deep into the yucky stuff that you don’t what to write about. Compost is “..what happened to you, what sticks onto your soul”. Write about what you know. That is where your honest feelings are. “Compost is your best stuff” “Compost is the stuff of writing”.
Finally Part 3 New pages: Finding you place in the world of writing.
Once to have written for years then you feel that you understand writing. You are brave enough to tell people you are a writer. This is the stage that you are prepared to write for publications. This is the process of rejection letters – the badges of honour of a writer.
This is a fabulous little book that put a whole new perspective on writing for me. And I know acknowledge that I am a writer. Not a brilliant one. But with practice I may be one day.
